These flowers come in various colors, including deep purples, yellows, and whites. The most famous species, Fritillaria meleagris, often called the snake’s head fritillary, features a striking purple and white checkered pattern. This species is native to Europe and thrives in damp meadows and woodland areas.
It's hard to replicate the beauty of these dainty blossoms but I may have to try. First, it is time to get the soil ready for all the vegetables and flowers that must be grown this year. Such an exciting time - the smell of the soil, getting the beds ready by weeding and tilling. Checked on the seeds that were winter sowed...and alas there are lots of little babies ready for gong into the garden soon. Sugar pumpkins, bok choy, swiss chard, different lettuces and some promising cone flower. Sugar snap peas were planted last week and with the rain - should be up in a week or so. They love the cold weather and lots of rain.
All of this is inspiring and the watercolors will be out next- to capture some of the spring beauties that are about to bloom. Happy days are here....get out and see what is peeking out around town.
